NPA logistics officer killed, 3 others nabbed in Bukidnon

A NEW People’s Army (NPA) logistics officer was killed and three others were captured in a firefight with government troops in Quezon town in Bukidnon last Wednesday morning.

Another rebel surrendered several hours after the clash, the Army’s 10th Infantry Division reported.

Troops from the Army’s 48th, 57th and 27th infantry battalions were conducting a combat operation in Purok 8, Barangay Butong when they clashed with the insurgents at 8:49 a.m.

The 10-minute clash led to the death of one of the rebels, who was identified only as alias Rica/Tomboy, the logistics officer of the NPA Guerrilla Front 57.

The military said Rica/Tomboy has standing arrest warrants for murder, homicide, and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

The three rebels captured were identified as Sophia/Mada, Kyle, and Joshua/Jason.

Another rebel, identified as alias Del, fled but surrendered to the troops at around 3 p.m.

He turned over an M16 rifle.

The military said an M16 rifle with an M203 grenade launcher, an AK47 rifle, a Carbine, a cal. 45 pistol, an anti-personnel mine, a hand grenade, two 40 mm high explosives, three backpacks and rebel documents were recovered by soldiers at the encounter site.
