FINISHING with a flourish, Yuka Saso birdied the last two holes yesterday en route to a 67 and wound up third in the Gainbridge LPGA at Boca Rio tournament at the Boca Rio Golf Club in Boca Raton, Florida.

After a lackluster third round, Saso, competing in her second straight tourney as a full-pledged Japanese citizen, rediscovered her touch around the greens and gunned down six birdies against a lone bogey on hole No. 7, a par-5, for a 72-hole total of 276 over the par-72, 6,701-yard layout.

Saso, the reigning US Women’s Open champion, pocketed $133,644 (around P6.8 million) and finished two strokes behind New Zealand’s Lydia Ko, who closed out with a 69-274 to win the crown by one over American Danielle Kang (68-275) and take home the top prize of $300,000 (P15.3 million).
