THE Philippines dropped a 1-3 decision to Malaysia in the mixed team finals last Saturday to settle for a silver medal at the close of the 7th Southeast Asian Cup Squash Championships in Johor, Malaysia.

Newly crowned women’s singles champion Jemyca Aribado was the lone bright spot for Kayod Pilipinas, winning her singles match in the best-of-5 series in the six-nation competition organized by the Southeast Asian Squash Association led by Philippine Squash Association president Robert Bachmann.

“Had we won this event, we would have been the overall champions of the competition,” rued Bachmann, who praised his wards for coming up with one gold, two silvers and one bronze medal for their best performance yet in the regional meet.

The national contingent travelled overland yesterday from Johor to neighboring Singapore and were set to compete starting today in the Marigold-Southeast Asian Jumbo Doubles Championships. — Bong Pedralvez
