It’s not Beauty and the Beast, but Beauty and the Best.
It’s how the wonderful teamup of beautiful newcomer Bella Thompson — bella, of course, means beautiful in Italian — and former child star Buboy Villar is best described in the heartwarming love story “Ang Kwento Ni Makoy.”
“Ang Kwento Ni Makoy” is directed by Hans Jason Pagaduan and has Buboy playing a kind nurse who falls for a lovely patient, played by Bella. The actor shows how he can be effective not only as a comedian but also as a drama actor in the movie. And Bella, a newcomer, is thankful that for her first movie, she is paired with the versatile actor.
Aside from Buboy and Bella, “Ang Kwento ni Makoy” showcases emerging stars Elan Villafuerte, Jimson Benagua, Ranz Aganan, Angelita Loresco, Kenneth Mangurit, and Kharyl Shanti Ibnohasim who have made their mark in the Philippine indie films and indie theatrical plays. Featured as well are new faces such as Caroline Perla, Jonna Sibonga, and Prince Euri Feliciano.
Shot during the height of the COVID pandemic, the film revolves around Bella and Buboy’s unique onscreen chemistry where Bella portrays a self-help writer who tested positive with COVID-19 and who then falls under the care of Buboy who plays the role of a loveable nurse. Despite their characters’ differences when it comes to perspectives in life, Buboy’s charisma leads them to become friends and teach each other how it is important to value life and the people around them.
Produced by Masaya Studio Inc., “Ang Kwento Ni Makoy” opens in theaters this December 7.
