LA Salle ripped rival Ateneo yesterday 25-16, 25-20, 25-13 to remain unbeaten in the 85th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay.
In front of 10,754 fans, rookie Angel Canino fired 23 points, 21 off points, a block, a service ace, nine digs and five excellent receptions for the Lady Spikers.
Skipper Jolina Dela Cruz and Thea Gagate added 13 and 10 markers, respectively, as La Salle stayed perfect with a 3-0 mark and extended its winning streak against Ateneo to 11 dating back to 2017.
Team captain Faith Nisperos was the only player to reach double digits with 11 markers for Ateneo, which slipped to 1-2.
Earlier, University of the Philippines notched its first win after overpowering University of the East 22-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-20.
The Katipunan-based crew entered the win column, thanks to Nina Ytang who tallied 20 points, 12 from attacks, a season-high seven blocks and a service ace.
The Fighting Maroons improved their record to 1-2, while the Lady Red Warriors remained winless in three starts.
Skipper Ja Lana and Vanessa Bangayan paced UE with 14 and 13 points, respectively.
Perpetual Help proved too much for San Sebastian College, scoring a 26-24, 25-23, 25-16 victory yesterday to get back on track in the 98th NCAA women’s volleyball tournament at the San Andres Sports Complex.
Shaila Omipon led Perpetual with 13 points along with seven digs, while libero Marian Andal led the defensive load with 14 digs and 11 excellent receptions.
Mary Rhose Dapol and Janine Padua showed the way for the Lady Altas with 12 and 10 markers, respectively.
With the triumph, the Lady Altas improved to 4-1 and forged a tie with Mapua University for second.
Katherine Santos and Kristine Dionisio led the Lady Stags with 13 and 10 markers, respectively, while Amaka Tan had nine points.
