IN an all-sibling finale, Pia Bidaure prevailed over younger sister Gabriel Monica 6-5 in a thrilling shoot-off to win the women’s open recurve event of the 19th Philippine Archery Cup (third leg) at the SM Seaside concert grounds in Cebu City recently.

With the score tied at 5-all after four rounds, the older Bidaure, like her sister a national team mainstay, shot a 9 while the younger one had a 6 in in the one-arrow shoot-off.

In the men’s open recurve event, national youth player Jonathan Reaport stunned national team veteran Jason Emmanuel Feliciano 6-2 in the well-attended meet that was held simultaneously with the WAP grassroots development competition leg 3.

“We had good attendance overall in both events with over 200 entries who came from as far as Koronadal, South Cotabato and Baguio. We also had one UK-based Filipino, Jason Lapuz, who took part in our event,” said WAP secretary general Dondon Sombrio.

In the open compound event, Benel Archery Club’s Andrei Johann Olano was tops in the men’s division while comebacking Amaya Paz-Cojuangco,  a gold medalist in the 2007 Thailand Southeast Asian Games and carrying the colors of Archery Dream Club, ruled the women’s division.

University of Baguio’s Renian Keith Nawew bagged the gold medal in the men’s under-21 division while Ada Sofia Lagrada of Olympus Archery Club took the mint in the women’s under-21 division.

Cebu Archery Club’s Aldrener Igot and Olympus Archery Club’s Giuliana Vernie Garcia were the champions in the boys and girls under-18 category, respectively.

Sombrio said the national team will see action in the Asia Cup leg 3 that will be held from June 5 to 10 in Singapore.

Seeing action in the event besides the Bidaure siblings, Feliciano and Cojuangco are national compound archers Paul Marton dela Cruz, wife Rachelle and Andrea Robles.
