PHILIPPINE Sports Commission Chairman Dickie Bachmann yesterday met with officials of the Local Organizing Committee of the FIBA World Cup the country will co-host with Japan and Indonesia in July.

In a short chat, Bachmann said he would meet with the LOC FIBA World Cup officials led by LOC deputy events director Erika Dy regarding the running of the prestigious international basketball tournament.

The national government has allotted a whopping P1 billion for the staging of the tournament, with the PSC serving as the disbursement agency of the funds to the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas that will oversee the event’s hosting through the LOC.

“The FIBA World Cup LOC will present how the money will be spent for the staging of the tournament,” said Bachmann, who is familiar with LOC’s workings, having been its former basketball operations chief before being appointed as PSC chief.

He added the SBP, LOC and the PSC will need to have a formal agreement before any fund can be released, similar to what the government sports agency did with the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee for the hosting of the 2019 30th SEA Games. — Bong Pedralvez
