IS Tokyo Olympic silver medalist Eumir Felix Marcial going full-time as a pro boxer?

It seems to be that way, based on Marcial’s statements issued through MP Promotions yesterday announcing his next pro middleweight bout, a six-rounder, on Feb. 11 (Feb. 12 in Manila) at the Alamadome in San Antonio, Texas.

He will be in the undercard of the World Boxing Organization junior lightweight title clash between American O’Shaquie Foster and Mexican Rey Vargas.

“I am looking forward to focusing on my professional career and I am very excited to be fighting in San Antonio, which is a great fight town but also where my promoter Manny Pacquiao made history,” Marcial said, referring to Pacquiao’s memorable 11th-round TKO win over fancied Mexican Marco Antonio Barrera in a non-title featherweight clash on Nov. 15, 2003 at the same arena.

Marcial will eye his fourth straight win since surviving a bloody second-round cut in a unanimous decision victory over American journeyman Steven Pichardo at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson City, California last Oct. 10.

“I have had a very productive training camp and I cannot wait to show off what I have learned on February 11. My three goals are to work hard, to win, and to become a world champion,” said Marcial, who has been training with noted cornerman Jorge Capetillo.

“Eumir is a very special fighter. Unless you are part of his inner circle, you have no idea how hard it has been to constantly shift training from amateur to professional styles every year,” Sean Gibbons, MP Promotions president, said.

“He can focus on his professional career, and I am confident his true talent will be on full display on February 11 at the Alamodome,” added Gibbons.
