GRADUATING player Roma Mae Doromal and the Ateneo Blue Eagles wrapped up their campaign in the 86th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament on a strong note, scoring a 25-13, 25-17, 25-21 decision over the Adamson Lady Falcons yesterday at the Big Dome.

The Blue Eagles finished their season in fifth place with five wins and nine losses, slightly better than their 4-10 slate last year when they played their first time with coach Sergio Veloso.

Wing spiker Lyann De Guzman, who’s undecided yet if she will continue to play for Ateneo next season, topscored with 14 points while Doromal capped her Blue Eagles stint with nine digs and six excellent receptions.

Sobe Buena and AC Miner delivered eight and seven markers, respectively, for the Blue Eagles as Taks Fujimoto had 14 excellent sets.

“I’m so happy because this, our last match, the team played very well. [Although] we cannot [reach] the top four, and we kept our position at fifth, it’s better than the last year.

It’s one of our targets. But the most important [is] how the player improved in this season, in this tournament,” Veloso said.
