DEFENDING champion College of St. Benilde sustained its mighty streak yesterday, humbling Arellano University 25-16, 25-20, 25-14 for its sixth straight win in the NCAA Season 99 women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

The Lady Blazers posted their 35th straight win and moved a step closer from claiming a Final Four spot, and, if they keep on rolling, three wins away from sweeping their way straight to the finals.

The Lady Blazers completed a couple of 11-game title sweeps in the last two seasons.

Not to be outdone, Lyceum of the Philippines battled back from an opening set meltdown and beat back Emilio Aguinaldo College 16-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-12 to remain unscathed in five outings.

Skipper Jessa Dorog had 13 points and nine excellent receptions as the Lady Blazers made short work of the Chiefs, who slipped to 3-3.

Weilyn Estoque and Zam Nolasco combined for 6 markers, Gayle Pascual chipped in seven points while setter Cloanne Mondonedo tossed 18 excellent sets along with four points for the Taft-based squad.

St. Benilde limited its unforced errors to only 13 while Arellano had 21 in the 74-minute duel.

Pauline De Guzman and Marianne Padillon paced Arellano with 12 and 10 markers, respectively.

On Sunday, the green and white crew eyes its seventh consecutive victory when it battles with the Mapua Lady Cardinals.
