What she lacks in talent, she makes up in hard work.

As showbiz tyro Herlene Budol marks her first starring role in the afternoon series “Magandang Dilag,” the Binibining Pilipinas 2022 first runner-up is making sure to not disappoint.

She is studying her lines – writing each word down to make sure she remembers them. She is so intent at it that, recalled co-star Chanda Romero, she cried her heart out when she failed to deliver on one take.

“Sorry po talaga,” she told her co-actors.

Meanwhile, Sandy Andolong, who plays Herlene’s mom in the series, related how the newcomer puts her heart in their scenes.

“Nakakaawa. Bigay na bigay pag-iyak nya to the point na nag cut na si Direk, tuloy pa rin pag-iyak nya, kailangan kahit paano sabihan mo sya ok na, tapos na yun,” related Sandy. “Buong buo ang pagbigay nya sa role nya at bagay na bagay sa kanya talaga. It’s really for her.”

This singular dedication plus her hard work  convinced GMA that Herlene deserves to star in “Magandang Dilag,” a revenge drama that will begin airing on June 26.

In “Magandang Dilag,” Herlene is Gigi, a woman who may not have the best looks but has the most optimistic attitude toward life. Gigi faces a turnaround of events when she inherits enormous wealth from her estranged father, Joaquin.

Soon after, Gigi finds romance with the man of her dreams, Jared (Rob Gomez), who is a prominent triathlete/endorser. But the truth is, Jared is still with Blaire (Maxine Medina), and they will only fool her to steal her money.

Joining Herlene in her big break is Benjamin Alves, Adrian Alandy, Bianca Manalo, Angela Alarcon, Muriel Lomadilla, Prince Clemente, Jade Tecson and veteran actor Al Tantay as Joaquin, Gigi’s father.

“Magandang Dilag” is under the helm of Don Michael Perez and airs weekdays at 3:20 p.m. on GMA.
