Handsome, tall, confident, and articulate, Mathew Sygal So, who represents Marikina at the 2023 Mister International Philippines, has everything it takes to clinch a title in any pageant.

“I am very confident about being gwapo, pogi and I know I have the brains and what it takes to bring home a title from Mister International,” he told members of the media at his meet and greet in Marikina last June 9.

But what sets the 19-year-old apart from other men his age is his heart.

At his press con, the young man, a Management Engineering student at the Ateneo de Manila University, impressed the attendees not only with his smarts and good looks but also his concern for differently-abled persons.

Mathew is a proud ambassador of the National Council on Disability Affairs and at his media con, he took the opportunity to train the spotlight on the valiant and victorious athletes who brought pride to our country as representatives to the 12th Asean Para Games held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia last June 3 to 9.

The Atenean gave tribute to the chess champs, the Philippines Paralympic Chess Team, who won several gold medals at the multi-parasports event.

“The reason why I joined Mister International Philippines is because I believe it’s one of the biggest stages in the Philippines, and it allows me to develop myself to be exposed not only in the entertainment business but also others sectors, such as PWDs and other advocacies I am part of,” he said.

Just like fellow Atenean Robbie Domingo, Mathew possesses a dazzling smile, fast wit and a charismatic stage presence that can be his ticket to showbiz. Will Matthew say no if showbiz comes a-knocking?

“For showbiz, I am not closing any doors. Of course, I want to finish my education first and establish my dreams, but if the right opportunity comes, why not take it?”
