THE PNP yesterday described as “fake news” several robbery incidents in Quezon City making the rounds of social media.

PNP chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr. urged the public to be cautious of information they are seeing on social media.

“We urge everyone to stay alert and cautious of unverified information encountered in cyberspaces. The PNP is always here to serve and protect you from street crimes and even from cybercrimes,” said Acorda.

In a statement, the PNP Public Information Office several alleged robberies in Quezon City are “fake news.”

“These false reports have been circulating on various social media platforms,” it said.

One of the establishments allegedly robbed was the Japanese restaurant Nomiya Izakaya on Scout Tobias. The restaurant was reportedly robbed of P100,000 in cash, jewelry and cell phones.

The other establishments reportedly robbed were the Starbucks coffee shop in Barangay Lourdes and the Chinese seafood restaurant Shang-rila (now Peng Lai Restaurant) in Barangay West Triangle.

Citing information from Quezon City Police District Chief Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan, the PNP Public Information Office said these incidents were “not true.”

“There is no concrete evidence to support the claims of these alleged robbery incidents,” the statement quoted Maranan as saying.
