AN Army brigade commander in Lanao del Sur is now the Army’s chief of staff, the third highest post in the 110,000-strong Philippine Army.

Brig. Gen. Yegor Rey Barroquillo assumed the post on Wednesday during rites presided over by Army chief Lt. Gen. Roy Galido at the Army headquarters at Fort Bonifacio.

Barroquillo succeeded Maj. Gen. Ferdinand Napuli who assumed as acting Army chief of staff last November 18, in concurrent capacity as the Army’s Inspector General, after Maj. Gen. Potenciano Camba reached the retirement age of 57.

Barroquillo, a member of the Philippine Military Academy class of 1992, was the commander of the 103rd Brigade based in Marawi City prior to his new designation.

Galido expressed confidence Barroquillo will be able to contribute for the “Army’s growth.”

Galido also recognized Napuli for his “short but meaningful stint” as acting Army chief of staff.

The Army has yet to announce Barroquillo’s replacement at the 103rd Infantry Brigade which is leading the fight against terrorist and other threat groups in Lanao del Sur.
