A MILLION children in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) have received anti-measles vaccines in the ongoing measles outbreak response immunization campaign of the Department of Health and the region’s Ministry of Health.

The target is 1.3 million children younger than 10 years. The immunization drive started on April 1.

“We are already close to hitting the 1.3 million target,” said DOH spokesman Dr Albert Domingo.

The immunization drive was launched in response to a measles outbreak declared in the Bangsamoro, with close to half (48%) of the cases nationwide coming from BARMM.

Domingo said the DOH is also closely monitoring the measles situation in Central Luzon, where about 8 percent of the total measles cases nationwide were reported, “for the reason that there is a high population in Region III.”

DOH said 1,817 cases of measles have been reported in the region from January 1 to April 13.
