IN-PERSON classes in all levels in public and private schools in the city of Manila are suspended today, Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan announced yesterday.

“This is due to the forecasted danger heat index level of 43 degrees according to the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office,” Lacuna said.

The mayor advised all schools to shift to asynchronous classes.

Earlier this month, Manila City Schools Division Office Education Supervisor Nerissa Lomeda issued an order directing all public schools in Manila to implement morning-only classes from April 1 to May 28 due to the extreme heat being experienced across the country.

But Lomeda required teachers to still report to schools despite the adjusted class settings.

District supervisors were also directed to provide technical assistants to schools to come up with re-programmed class schedules, including but not limited to blended modality.

In Pasay City, Mayor Imelda Calixto-Rubiano also cited extreme heat for suspending in-person learning in schools in the city on April 23 and 24.

The suspension covers public and private schools at all levels.

Calixto-Rubiano earlier issued an order mandating the automatic suspension of in-person classes in the city if the temperature hits 42 degrees or above.
