A MAGNITUDE 5.3 earthquake rocked Leyte yesterday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
The quake occurred at around 12:39 a.m. with the epicenter located some 10 km southwest of Barauen town in Leyte, Phivolcs said.
Phivolcs said the earthquake, of tectonic in origin, had a depth of four km.
The shaking was felt at Intensity V in Burauen, Kananga, La Paz, Julita, and Pastrana towns and Ormoc City, all in Leyte; at Intensity IV in Dulag, Santa Fe, Barugo, Abuyog, Palo, Tolosa, Capoocan towns and Baybay City and Tacloban City, all in Leyte; and at intensity III in Cebu City and Talisay City, both in Cebu; Lawaan town, Eastern Samar; Leyte town, Leyte; and Biliran town in Biliran.
Phivolcs said is not expecting any damage from the tremor.
Aftershocks, however, are expected.
