A LOW pressure area (LPA) that entered the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) last Saturday is unlikely to develop into a tropical depression.

As of 3 p.m. yesterday, the LPA was some 325 km east of Virac, Catanduanes, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

The LPA was “embedded along the intertropical convergence zone affecting Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao,” it said.

PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina said there is a “small chance” the LPA will develop into a tropical depression.

Badrina also said LPA may get near the eastern portion of the country and people in the area , specifically in Cagayan Valley region, Aurora and Quezon provinces, and parts of Bicol region, should expect cloudy skies.

“It may become a cloud cluster only in the coming days,” he said.

The country’s last tropical cyclone for the year was severe tropical storm “Chedeng” which entered PAR this month. It did not make landfall but brought rains in some parts of the country. — Victor Reyes
