PNP chief Guillermo Eleazar yesterday ordered a thorough probe on six cops who allegedly harassed personnel of the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines in Quezon City last Tuesday.
“I have tasked the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and the Quezon City Police District to look into the allegation against our personnel,” Eleazar said, adding the six cops should be identified and asked to explain.
The six reportedly went to the office without permission from TUCP. They also didn’t have a search warrant.
“We will determine if the protocols were followed by the police officers when they went to the TUCP compound. If protocols were violated, we are not going to tolerate this and we will act on it,” Eleazar said, adding the policemen may have acted on their own because the PNP did not issue an order to search the TUCP compound.
TUCP president Raymond Mendoza had condemned the action of the six policemen, calling it “a clear act of harassment intended to send a chilling message to the trade union movement and specifically to cow TUCP in its advocacy and union organizing work in both the private and public sectors.”
Mendoza said the policemen arrived at the TUCP compound aboard a sedan from the CIDG.
