THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) yesterday shrugged off 20,000 instances of hacking attempts on its website, saying it has prepared for such eventuality.

But the Comelec will take note of the cyberattack attempts reported by the Department of Information and Technology, acting Comelec spokesman John Rex Laudiangco.

“We have been preparing for this elections months and years before. Part of those preparations and plans is to help the Comelec harden its website,” he said.

“It is really not a cause for concern. Is it something to be alarmed about? Not necessarily too,” he added.

On Saturday, Laudiangco said the DICT has recorded some 20,000 cyberattack attempts directed at the Comelec’s official website ahead of the May 9 polls.

Such attempts, however, were successfully prevented and blocked by the DITC.
