THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) yesterday reminded all political parties and party-list organizations to file their Sworn Information Update Statement (SIUS) on or before August 15, 2023.
In a social media post, the Comelec said it is mandatory for political parties and party-list organizations to file their SIUS annually in compliance with election laws.
“A reminder for all political parties, coalition of political parties, and party-list groups and organizations: Last day to file SIUS with the Comelec Clerk of the Commission is on August 15, 2023,” said the Comelec.
The SIUS is a document that states, among others, the full name of political party, party-list organization, or coalition of political parties with acronym; principal headquarters and postal office address, including its branches and divisions, if any; date of registration, constituency; list of current officers, respective positions, and sex; and list of elected members in the immediately preceding national and local elections, respective elective positions, and sex.
In a previous interview, Comelec spokesman John Rex Laudiangco said party list groups and political parties which fail to submit their SIUS as required face the risk of cancelled registration ahead of the next elections.
“Failure to comply with said requirement shall constitute prima facie evidence that the political party, party-list, or coalition of political parties concerned already ceased to exist and shall be a cause for the cancellation of the party’s and coalition’s registration after due notice and hearing,” said Laudiangco.
