THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is ready to explain and discuss with senators unresolved flooding issues in various areas in the National Capital Region, chairperson Romando Artes said yesterday.
Sen. Ramon Revilla Jr. has asked Artes and Public Works Secretary Manuel Bonoan to explain the continued flooding in the metropolis, especially at the height of the onslaught of super typhoon “Egay.”
The MMDA supposedly received P6 billion in 2019, while the DPWH got P594.62 billion for its flood control projects.
“Welcome po sa amin ang balak ni Sen. Revilla. We have yet to receive an invitation, but we will attend po pag meron na patawag (We welcome the move of Sen. Revilla. We have yet to receive an invitation, but we will attend once we receive it),” Artes said.
Earlier this year, Quezon City Rep. Arjo Atayde called on the MMDA to be proactive and ensure that flood control measures are in place to avoid a deluge of catastrophic proportions like when Ondoy submerged many parts of Metro Manila in 2009.
