A BOMB threat forced employees of the Department of Foreign Affairs to evacuate their offices yesterday morning.
Pasay Police chief Col. Samuel Pabonita said their initial investigation showed that employees at the DFA consulates in Ontario, Canada, Sydney, Australia and Hong Kong received through email a message saying “there’s a bomb inside the department” and immediately alerted the DFA home office on Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City.
The Pasay police immediately responded, deploying a team from the Special Weapon and Tactics and Explosive Ordnance Disposal, backed up by two K9 dogs, at around 7 a.m.
An extensive search of the DFA main building turned up empty, with no bomb or any explosive device being found. The police EOD team declared the area clear at around 8 a.m.
Pabonita said they are investigating who sent the bomb threat to the consulates.
Security was also tightened at the DFA in the aftermath of the bomb threat.
The DFA has yet to issue a statement on the matter.
