1,367 NPA rebels ‘neutralized’ this year: AFP

A TOTAL of 1,367 New People’s Army (NPA) rebels and supporters have been “neutralized” this year, the Armed Forces reported yesterday.

The number includes 97 rebels who died in combat operations and 101 others who surrendered from January 1 to August 8, AFP spokesperson Colonel Francel Padilla said in a press briefing at Camp Aguinaldo.

The rest of the 1,169 are rebels and supporters who surrendered or returned to the fold of law during the same period, said Padilla.

“A total of 1,367 communist terrorists group members and supporters were neutralized, broken down to 1,169 surrendered, 101 apprehended, and 97 killed,” said Padilla.

Padilla said 751 firearms and 237 anti-personnel mines were either captured or surrendered.

She said 165 NPA camps were seized by government troops.

Padilla said a total of 176 members of terrorist organizations have been neutralized

During the same period, Padilla said a total of 176 members of local terrorist groups were also neutralized this year.

The local terrorist groups include the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters, the Daulah Islamiyah, the Maute Group, and the Abu Sayyaf Group.
