Bugoy Cariño surprised everyone as he proposed to his partner, volleyball star EJ Laure, at his 21st birthday party on Sunday, September 3.

In front of family and friends, the dancer-actor told Laure: “Itong babaeng ito, papakasalan ko. Itong babaeng ito, mamahalin ko hanggang dulo…

“Ennajie Cruz Laure, mahal na mahal kita. Will you marry me?”

Amidst the cheering of their guests, Laure gave her “yes.”

Cariño and Laure, 26, have been together for six years and have a five-year-old daughter.

Amidst the controversies, their careers took a backseat as they focused on raising their child.

Cariño is now set to make his return to the silver screen with the upcoming release of “Huling Sayaw,” a movie that seamlessly combines his two passions – dancing and acting.

The film, produced by Camerrol Entertainment Productions, follows the journey of redemption and pursuing dreams of three childhood best friends, with Bugoy playing the role of Danilo, Andy Abellar as Stephanie, and Belle Mariano as Tiffany.

Belle’s inclusion in “Huling Sayaw” is no surprise as even in “Goin Bulilit,” the Bugoy and Belle tandem was already being noticed. So when “Huling Sayaw” was made in 2018, Belle was deemed perfect for the part of Danilo’s friend who harbored a crush on him.

“Huling Sayaw” carries elements that mirror Bugoy’s own life experiences, showcasing the strength and resilience needed to reclaim one’s path after making wrong decisions.

In a media conference held August 30 at Viva Cafe in Araneta City, Cubao, Quezon City, Bugoy was asked about seeing his contemporaries being active in showbiz.

For Bugoy, there are no regrets.

He embraces his role as a father and believes that it is what God had intends for him at that point in his life. “Nawala sa akin ‘yung panghihinayang ko,” Bugoy revealed, “lalo na nung lumabas ang baby ko. Nasabi ko, eto ‘yung pinakablessing na bigay sa akin ni God, eto ‘yung kapalit, sobrang saya ko sa buhay ngayon.”

Bugoy’s journey in the entertainment industry is nothing short of remarkable. At the tender age of 3, he dazzled audiences with his dance moves, and by the age of 5, he already had his dance crew. His career took off when he emerged as the champion of Star Circle Kid Quest in 2009, leading to a contract with Star Magic. Subsequently, he became a familiar face on the weekly show “Goin’ Bulilit.”

His talent transcended the stage, earning him accolades as well. At the age of 9, Bugoy secured his first acting award as the Best Child Performer at the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) for his role in “Shake, Rattle and Roll 13.” He continued to shine, winning the Best Supporting Actor award at the ASEAN International Film Festival and Awards (AIFFA) for his outstanding performance in “Alagwa” (2011).

Now, Bugoy is back with a bang, leading the cast of “Huling Sayaw” with Rob Sy, Ramon Christopher, Christian Vasquez, Emilio Garcia and Jao Mapa.

Under the skilled direction of Errol Ropero with executive producers Ronald Allan Guinto, Michael Endaya, Hon. Melvin Vergara Vidal, and Hon. Amado Carlos Bolilia IV, “Huling Sayaw” is showing on September 13.
