Fifteen-year-old Shaine, an aspiring accountant at Gapan East Integrated School in Nueva Ecija, benefits from numeracy programs funded by the school’s Special Education Fund (SEF).
The Project All Numerates (PAN) and Project EASTmartNumeracy initiatives provide interactive activities that build essential skills for academic and real-world success.
“We have seen that increasing school maintenance and other operating expenses (MOOE) will allow SEF to be more effective,” says Akihiro Fushimi, UNICEF Chief of Education. “Freeing up the more flexible SEF funds from basic expenses can potentially produce better learning outcomes because then SEF can be used for highly effective teaching and learning activities.”
UNICEF believes more strategic use of SEF resources could help more students like Shaine achieve their educational goals and career aspirations.
