TO commemorate the fifth anniversary of the passing of philanthropist and business tycoon Dr. George S.K. Ty, Metrobank Group companies join forces for a series of events. These activities focus on celebrating Dr. Ty’s contributions, particularly in healthcare and education.
Manila Doctors Hospital (MDH) initiates a scholarship program for 4th-year Nursing students at Manila Tytana Colleges. GT Foundation Inc. provides Php5 million to support BSN scholars, emphasizing Dr. Ty’s vision for healthcare. The GTFI-MDH Scholarship Program aims to enhance healthcare quality by sustaining a pool of professionals in collaboration with the academic community.
MDH also unveils the bust of Dr. Ty in the second phase of the dedication of the Dr. George S.K. Ty Medical Tower. This tower is a testament to Dr. Ty’s dream of making MDH one of the top hospitals, offering safe and comprehensive healthcare.
Manila Tytana Colleges organizes Pagyabong, a series of activities celebrating Dr. Ty’s life and legacy. The Student Symposium showcases proposals from Tytana Formation students, addressing community needs such as hygiene education, culture promotion, and mental health advocacy. Tytana also conducts a Community Food Sharing program, benefiting grade school students. The Pagyabong Essay Writing and Video Making Competitions aim to highlight stories of service and kindness.
GT Foundation continues its food augmentation program, PaGTitipon, reaching 20,000 families nationwide. In its third year, GTFI collaborates with organizations like Childhope Philippines and Caritas Philippines. A ceremonial event at Childhope Philippines Paco Manila on November 24 kicks off the program, which runs until July 27, 2024.
Metrobank Foundation holds internal commemoration activities for family and close friends of Dr. Ty.
The commemoration activities take place from November 21 to December 7, 2023. Dr. Ty’s significant contributions earned him various accolades, including being named Management Man of the Year in 2006 and receiving the Order of Lakandula in 2010. Posthumously, he was honored by both the Senate and the House of Representatives for his philanthropic contributions and outstanding leadership.
