TO PREVENT CONFUSION
MAYNILAD Water Services Inc. and Manila Water Co. Inc. will issue itemized billing statements reflecting actual consumption during the quarantine periods as they resume today regular meter readings and billing operations.
The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System-Regulatory Office (MWSS-RO) has released the guidelines on water billings which will reflect the actual, not approximation , of water consumption and corresponding the charges based on meter reading.
Billings will also reflect the accumulated consumption divided by the number of months covered by the periods of enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) and the modified ECQ.
The companies were asked to verify the consumption patterns of customers, check for irregularities and automatically withhold any accounts with observed significant deviation from these patterns for further investigations and necessary adjustment.
Patrick Ty, chief regulator, said the public is encouraged to settle their bills in staggered amounts prior to the disconnection period of August 1 for non-lifeline accounts and September 1 for lifeline accounts in order to avoid accumulation of charges, bill shock and ensure continuity of services.
Ty said consumers who are unable to pay their bills by the said period can use promissory notes.
