The National Water Resource Board (NWRB) said the recent extension of the 52 cubic meters per second (cms) Angat dam allocation for Metro Manila water concessionaires until the end of the month may be the last.
“Angat dam level continues to drop and we don’t experience much rains so we think that we already need to control the release (of water) to ensure supply for next year. If the level continues to drop and we continue to extend the 52 cms extension, we might be compromised,” said Sevillo David Jr., NWRB executive director.
David also expressed optimism the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System and Maynilad Water Services Inc. and Manila Water Co. will soon complete their water recovery improvement and other augmentation efforts amid the impending water allocation reduction from Angat dam.
Earlier, the NWRB said irrigation services that rely on supply from the Angat dam will require at least 40 cms of water starting June 16 which is deemed as the “regular” requirement of the sector when farmers start to plant during the cropping season.
