Meralco Power Gen Corp. (MGen) said its subsidiary Pacific Light Power Pte Ltd (PLP) secured from the Singapore’s Energy Market Authority the right to build, own and ope rate two power generating units that will provide 100 megawatts (MW) of fast start generation capacity by the second quarter of next year.

PLP said the move will allow the company to ensure uninterrupted power when unexpected events occur in Singapore’s power system while also producing low-carbon power generation as a liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant.

“PLP is pleased to be awarded the 25-year fast start contract for a 100 MW, hydrogen-

ready, gas turbine that can be brought from standstill to full load within 18 minutes… This award marks a significant milestone for our company and we are committed to delivering the project on time and reliably supporting the energy system,” said Yu Tat Ming, PLP chief executive officer, in a statement.

The company said the new capacity will provide ancillary reserve services.

PLP has an 800 MW LNG power plant which is owned by FPM Power Holdings Ltd., a joint venture between MGen and First Pacific Company Ltd.

MGen is eyeing to invest at least P18 billion to accelerate its renewable energy portfolio.

MGen is Manila Electric Co.’s subsidiary focused on developing power generation projects.
