The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has approved five energy companies’ projects to develop, own and operate dedicated point-to-point limited transmission facilities to connect their projects to the grid through the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) lines.

The regulatory body announced its approval of the five projects in a notice of commission action dated May 28, 2025, but was only made public over the weekend.

Point-to-point limited transmission facilities are dedicated transmission lines owned and operated by a generation company to connect their facility directly to the transmission system.

The ERC said the projects involved a total of 569.384 megawatts (MW) from four renewable energy projects, and another 60 MW from one battery energy storage system (BESS) facility.

Among these projects authorized to do their own point-to-point line, the biggest is the 463.995-MW solar plant of the Sapang Balen Solar Sustainable Energy Corp. in Mabalacat City, Pampanga.

It will be initially connected to the NGCP’s Mexico-Concepcion 230 kilovolt (kV) line and to the Magalang 230 kV substation once completed, said the ERC.

Meanwhile, the 58.5-MW wind project of the Cornerstone Energy Development Inc. in Camarines Sur, was allowed to connect to the grid via the Naga–Libmanan 69 kV transmission line of the NGCP.

On the other hand, the Megasol Energy 1 Inc.’s 41.244-MW solar project in Gamu, Isabela, will connect to the NGCP’s 69 kV Gamu-Roxas transmission line, while the Energy Development Corp.’s 5.645-MW Bago geothermal power plant in Negros Occidental, will need NGCP’s 138 kV Bacolod substation.

Lastly, the ERC allowed the SMGP Power BESS Inc. to have its 60-MW Lumban BESS in Laguna to directly connect to the 69 kV Lumban substation of the NGCP.
