Ayala taps online education platform

AYALA Group has partnered with online education platform Khan Academy for an initiative that aims to improve the learning experience of students in the Philippines.

Ayala said in a statement it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Khan Academy, Department of Education (DepEd) as well as the Ayala Foundation, Globe Telecom Inc. and iPeople Inc. schools National Teachers College and University of Nueva Caceres for the initiative.

iPeople is the education arm of Ayala in partnership with the Yuchengco Group of Companies.

“Aimed at strengthening learners’ fundamental literacy and numeracy skills through Khan Academy’s world-renowned online courses, key initiatives in the MOU include comprehensive teacher training programs, deployment of Khan Academy’s learning platform in Ayala-affiliated schools, internships and fellowships, and provision of critical digital infrastructure facilitated by Globe Telecom,” Ayala said, adding this will “boost the key competencies of learners in the country.”

No details were provided.

Fernando Zobel de Ayala, Ayala board of director and Ayala Foundation chairman, said the initiative will utilize the latest education technology to deliver high quality education to many Filipino learners in public and private schools.

We can solve perennial challenges in education by drawing from the expertise of partners like Ayala Group and the cutting-edge vision of enterprises of the future like Khan Academy,” said Education Secretary Sonny Angara. “This partnership is a testament to our collective vision of transforming education in the Philippines. By joining forces with the Ayala Group alongside the Department of Education, we are paving the way for innovative and inclusive learning solutions that empower Filipino students and educators alike,” Geraldine Acuña-Sunshine, Khan Academy Philippines chief executive officer, said.
