Sales of imported vehicles slip

Sales of the Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors Inc. (AVID) stood at 87,984 units in 2019, down 0.5 percent from 88,430 units of the previous year.

December sales of AVID members rose 12 percent 8,089 units from 7,211 units in the same month in 2018.

Sales of passenger cars in 2019 declined 0.5 percent to 30,726 units from from 30,876 units in 2018. The segment is led by Hyundai with a total of 17,761 units.

Sales of light commercial vehicles fell 1.1 percent in 2019 sales to 56,351 units from 56,999 units in 2018 . In December, sales rose 16 percent to 5,362 units sold versus the same period last year. Ford led this segment with a total of 19,993 units sold.

In the commercial vehicles (CV) segment, AVID recorded a 63 percent increase in sales or a total of 907 units in 2019 versus 2018.

In December alone, CV sales increased soared by 98 percent with 119 units sold versus November 2019.

This segment is dominated by Hyundai trucks and buses.
