Resolutions to recovery proposed

The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) is urging the current and next administrations to focus on 10 specific areas to fasttrack recovery of the country from the pandemic.

These areas are: reopening the economy, jobs generation, internet connectivity, innovation advocacy, ease of doing business, agricultural productivity, education, environment, energy efficiency, and infrastructure – to fasttrack recovery from the pandemic.

These constitute the resolutions to be submitted today to President Duterte at the end of the 47th Philippine Business Conference.

Jeffrey Ng, PBC chair, said the resolutions are addressed to the outgoing government and aspiring new leaders of the country as the we brace for the 2022 national election.

“We offer these resolutions containing doable recommendations, proposed legislations and executive actions to guide our economic recovery and bring into the fore those who are in danger of being left behind as we bounce back from the aftermath of the pandemic,” Ng said.

PCCI president Benedicto Yujuico expressed hope government will heed the call of the business sector to implement the short, medium, and long-term proposed solutions to not only go back to normal but to rebound to become more resilient, competitive, innovative, and sustainable.

“We will not concede this projected future amid all the grim outlook from many sectors,” Yujuico said.

Specifically, PCCI calls on the government to institutionalize innovation for economic development; open the economy now and assist businesses to create new jobs; fully implement ease of doing business; fast-track internet connectivity at competitive rates; modernize agriculture for food security; innovate and digitize the education system; balance industry growth and environmental protection; assure adequate power supply at a competitive cost; make infrastructure a cornerstone of economic development and; assure adequate power supply at competitive rates. – Irma Isip
