SM Hotel and Convention Corp. (SMHCC), the hotel arm of the SM Group of Companies has inked a Master Development Agreement with the Radisson Hotel Group to expand their partnership in the Philippines.

“Several years ago, when we started the Radisson Hotel Group, we said that it was our ambition to be one of the top 3 brands in the world. In this ambition to become one of the best in the world, there is one critical factor and that is with whom we partner with. It is an honor for me to be here again in the Philippines to celebrate and strengthen our relationship that we have forged in the previous years,” RGH CEO Federico Gonzalez said.

Under the agreement, SMHCC will have exclusive development rights for the Radisson brand in the country for the next 5 years. SMHCC will also develop an additional 14 Radisson-branded hotels in various locations around the Philippines. This will be fueled primarily by the Park Inn by Radisson brand which currently has 5 locations in the Philippines, namely North EDSA, Davao, Iloilo, Bacolod, and Clark.

“SMHCC’s long-time partnership with the Radisson Hotel Group will be further strengthened with this agreement and reflects a strong mutual intent to grow the brand in the country. We are certain that this new milestone between SMHCC and RHG will complement the vibrant tourism landscape locally and set a new benchmark in the hospitality industry. as the owner of the Park Inn by Radisson hotels in the Philippines, SMHCC looks forward to benefitting from RHG’s vast global resources which s made it one of the most progressive hotel companies in the world,” SMHCC executive vice president Peggy Angeles shared.

Angeles added that there were several factors in choosing the locations for the new hotels. One of the prerequisites was having an SM mall already established in a particular area. However, with over 80 malls in the Philippines, SMHCC narrowed it down by choosing cities that based on several criteria. “We first look if there are expansion capabilities of the existing malls like in the case of SM Cauayan in Isabela. We also consider if there is a development of a new smart city like in Dasmariñas or Santa Rosa. We won’t build just for the sake of building,” she said.
