Park Inn by Radisson North EDSA has become the first hotel in the Philippines to partner with Diversey’s PlasticShreds Sustainable Program, marking a significant milestone in the fight against plastic pollution.
Key stakeholders who witnessed the collaboration recently included Stefan Phang, Global Director of ESG & Creating Shared Value at Diversey, Inc, along with the Diversey team, Ann Olalo, General Manager of Park Inn by Radisson North EDSA, and her team and Chef Leah Magallanes, Vice President of Quality & Sustainability at SM Hotels and Conventions Corp.
“PlasticShreds is the latest Diversey program that Park Inn by Radisson North EDSA, Philippines has embraced,” Phang said.
Previously, Diversey and Park Inn by Radisson North EDSA had worked together to run Soap For Hope, which reprocess used hotel guests soaps into new soap bars, and Linens For Life, which repurposes end-of-life hotel linen into new products such as face masks, school uniforms for children, kitchen aprons, tote bags, soft toys and others.
These programs not only protect the environment by diverting tons of hotel discards from landfills, incinerators and oceans, but also help local communities by enhancing their livelihoods as well as providing them items that protect them such as soaps and face masks.
“We are very happy that Park Inn by Radisson North EDSA is a strong partner with us in our programs, and that PlasticShreds and other CSV programs are helping the hotel to achieve the Hospitality Sustainability Basics certification ahead of deadline,” Phang said.
“We are committed to operate a responsible and sustainable business, as part of Radisson Hotel Group’s commitment to Responsible Business and Hotel Sustainability Basics. We are proud to partner with Diversey in various sustainable initiatives and this latest synergy is our commitment to reduce single use plastic and environmental impact in our local community. We plan to upcycle these shredded plastic chips and produce planter boxes and miniature pots for hotel use and guest amenity,” Olalo added.
“The launch of PlasticShreds, and the other community programs which our hotels run together with Diversey, contribute to meeting the criteria of Hotel Sustainability Basics, the verified level of essential hotel sustainability which all Radisson Hotel Group properties will comply with in 2024. As a winner of the 2022 company award for Responsible Business, the Park Inn by Radisson North EDSA is one of our best in class hotels in our company focus on Think People, Think Community and Think Planet,” Inge Huijbrechts, Global Senior Vice President Sustainability at Radisson Hotel Group, said.
