ABOUT 10,000 jobs in Concentrix Philippines will be opened for displaced tourism workers as the coronavirus pandemic severely affected tourism businesses and livelihood.

This is a timely blessing for affected tourism workers, Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, Department of Tourism (DOT) secretary, said at the launch of “Mabuhay! Partnership: Overcoming Adversities Through New Opportunities.”

Applicants, who must be at least high school graduates, can work in the automotive, banking and financial services, consumer electronics, energy and public sector, health care service, insurance, media and communications, retail and e-commerce, technology, travel transportation and tourism fields.

According to Puyat, tour guides and frontline service providers have an edge in finding work in the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry, especially those who speak foreign languages.

Part-time jobs are also available as well as work-from-home arrangements in light of the new normal, she said.

Both the tourism and BPO industries are people-oriented, noted Puyat.

“We know you will rise above this crisis through this new and exciting undertaking,” she added.

Concentrix operates in 40 countries across the world, and the Philippines is its bedrock when it comes to investments, said Amit Jagga, Concentrix vice president for delivery shared services.

Jagga added the company creates partnerships to help displaced Filipinos who need support during these tough times, while it continues to grow its business in the country.

The skill set that workers in the hospitality industry will bring are important for the company, given their ability to interact with foreign nationals and their customer service orientation, Jagga said, adding that customer service jobs are suited to tourism workers.

Jagga said those who have no BPO work experience are also welcome.

Larah Diaz-Sta. Maria, Concentrix senior director, said the company’s training ratio is very specific for the current times to ensure that the learning and transfer of skills and knowledge happen seamlessly, and there is individualized focus support for every learner.

From the physical setup and actual transfer of skills and knowledge, to support while they are on the calls, all these will be given to them.

Seasonal and long-term contracts will be offered, so those who wish to work for two to three months while waiting for their establishments to reopen or return to normal and others who opt to stay in the BPO industry are both welcome.
