ARE YOU READY FOR A STAYCATION?: CAOS-certified hotels gear up

THE Department of Tourism (DOT) recently released the first batch of hotels — Grand Hyatt Manila; Okada Manila; Makati Shangri-La, Manila; Shangri-La at The Fort, Manila; and Nobu Hotel, City of Dreams Manila — granted with Certificate of Authority to Operate for Staycation (CAOS).

As of today, the DOT has just included Solaire Resort, EDSA Shangri-La, and Joy Nostalg Hotel & Suites Manila in its list of staycation hotels in the metro.

DOT issues CAOS to accommodation establishments in an area placed under general community quarantine. Hotels issued with CAOS means guests may be allowed for staycation purposes.

Except those with co-morbidities or are currently pregnant, Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, DOT secretary, stated in the guidelines that individuals of all ages are permitted to go on staycation in a CAOS-certified accommodation establishments.

But the DOT stressed that guests are required to present at least a negative rapid antigen test conducted on the same day of check-in.

The maximum allowable guests staying in a guestroom at a given time shall be determined by the floor area of the guestroom, the DOT added.

Restaurants and other food and beverage outlets (excluding bars), gyms, and swimming pools may also operate.

To promote minimal physical contact among staff and guests, contactless and cashless transactions for taking bookings and payments are also mandatory.

To make every staycation pleasant and safe, DOT said accommodation establishments are required to develop packages that are appropriate for the present market demands and conditions. The offerings must strictly adhere to the existing health and safety guidelines and will likewise be monitored by the concerned regional office of the department.

Okada Manila

Carved on 44 hectares fronting the picturesque Manila Bay, Okada managed to exceed all DOT requirements and received one of the first certifications in the Metro.

Since the quarantine started, Ivaylo Ivanov, Okada senior vice president of hotel operations, said the property in the Entertainment City have worked closely with the DOT, Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp., and all respective government agencies to ensure that their guests can have a safe and enjoyable stay once operations resume.

As physical human contact has been reduced, he noted that guests still receive the genuine, warm service Shangri-La is known the world over for.

A maximum of three guests only may be allowed to occupy any room. Except for Wonderful Family Getaway package, the hotel can accept two adults and two kids in an Executive room and Deluxe Suite.

Staying guests are provided with a Shangri-La care kit that includes a face mask in an envelope, hand sanitizer, and anti-bacterial wet wipes.
