HMPH celebrates its first anniversary with Spidey and the IONIQ line
TAKING centerstage at the Megamall Fashion Hall last weekend was the Hyundai Mobility Experience where the IONIQ 5, Hyundai’s flagship hatchback EV was on display. The event is part of Hyundai Motors Philippines (HMPH) commemoration of a global partnership with Sony Pictures for “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.”
The event was enjoyed by fans of the franchise and mallgoers from June 23 to 25.
Why Hyundai brought in Spiderman to the car display is simple: the IONIQ 6 made a cameo in the Across the Spider-verse franchise, which is both interesting because, even in the movies, EVs are becoming a mainstay.
“Hyundai Motor is more than a car company. We are committed to finding ways to enhance people’s mobility experience,” Cecil Capacete, Managing Director said.

A year ago the Hyundai franchise in the Philippines, moved from the HARI group to the current HMPH and a broad range of products, were released in the country. The move also coincided with Hyundai’s focus on its electrification plans, with the BEV line-up being the IONIQ 5 and the 6.
“The month of June marks our founding anniversary as Hyundai Motor Philippines. We are grateful and inspired to continue upholding our vision of progress for humanity to our Filipino customers, alongside our network of dealers and partners,” Capacete footnoted.
Those dropping by and placing a reservation for either the Creta, Santa Fe, Stargazer or Tucson, are entitled to a P10K voucher and a Hyundai-branded New Earth Washable Paper Bag Tote.
“I am very excited with the Hyundai EVs coming in to the country,” Oliver Felix, a car enthusiast, online used car seller and Spiderman fan said. “I was very skeptical about electric vehicles but when I saw the IONIQ power a whole ice cream kiosk, I was thrilled and convinced.”
The sequel of the Academy Award-winning animated film highlights a number of future mobility concepts from Hyundai, including a flying version of the “Prophecy” EV. The latter which actually inspired the design of the brand’s newest EV, the IONIQ 6. Visitors were able to test drive various models and claim a free sweet treat too.
“I saw the Hyundai EV in the movie. This is not the first time I saw a Hyundai car in a Spiderman movie,” Hannah V. said. “I used to not pay attention to it but now I realize I saw the Hyundai vehicle many times. t was a fun movie and I think Hyundai is a fun brand.”
In “Spider-Man: No Way Home” the Tucson and IONIQ 5 were mainstays.
The IONIQ 5, Hyundai’s flagship EV and 2022 World Car of The Year (WCOTY) winner, will be showcasing its Vehicle-To-Load (V2L) function by powering up the on-site ice cream bar and lounge. Those dropping by and placing a reservation for either the Creta, Santa Fe, Stargazer or Tucson, is entitled to a ten thousand (10,000) pesos voucher and a Hyundai-branded New Earth Washable Paper Bag Tote.
As the event also commemorates HMPH first year in the Philippines, some members of the HMPH group also came in to watch the movie and do a mixer with the media and fans.
“Which brings me to sharing the variety of activities we have prepared for our first anniversary. The festivities begin here at the Megamall Fashion Hall. Today, not only are we officially opening our interactive booth but also rolling out our month-long raffle promo. Then this coming Sunday, we are hosting a mini-concert featuring rock icon, Bamboo. The celebrations will be extended all the way up to the end of July, with another major activity in Alabang focused on our existing Hyundai owners,” Capacete concluded. — Sarah M. Gutierrez
