SHELL Pilipinas Corporation (SPC) launched its’ second Shell Recharge facility last week. The first one was opened in July 2022 at the northbound lane of the SLEX at Shell in Biñan, Laguna.
This second high capacity charging station, found in the Shell Mobility TPLEX junction site in Rosario, La Union, represents a significant leap in establishing a comprehensive EV highway with fast-charging infrastructure along the country’s major travel routes. This development aims to alleviate range anxiety for electric vehicle (EV) drivers traveling north from Metro Manila to destinations like La Union, Baguio, and Vigan.
“To ensure a seamless charging experience for long-distance EV journeys, it’s crucial to have fast, high-performance charging infrastructure and on-site convenience amenities. Shell is ready to evolve its Mobility offerings to meet the needs of our customers today and in the future,” Randy Del Valle, Vice President for Mobility at Shell Pilipinas Corporation shared. Last July Shell executives said that between 2023 and 2024, the fuel brand plans to set up several charging stations initially across Luzon.
Situated approximately 250 kilometers north of Metro Manila, the Shell Recharge TPLEX site provides a convenient stop for EV drivers heading towards these popular northern destinations. It enables them to swiftly charge their zero-emission EVs, ensuring a hassle-free journey.
The Shell Recharge TPLEX site features chargers capable of simultaneously charging four EVs. Among them is a 180kW DC ultra-rapid charger with two CCS2 charging points, compatible with a wide range of EV brands, including Hyundai, Lexus, Kia, Audi, Porsche, Jaguar, Land Rover, and BMW. This charger can replenish an EV’s battery from 10 percent to 80 percent capacity in under 30 minutes.
Additionally, there are two 22kW AC charging points for those who wish to take a more extended break at the Shell Mobility station.
The introduction of these Shell Recharge chargers in northern regions instills confidence in EV drivers to venture beyond Metro Manila, further promoting EV adoption among Filipino motorists.
While waiting for their EVs to recharge, customers can enjoy their favorite snacks from Shell Select and savor a cup of coffee from the newly opened Shell Café on-site. Additional offerings from Cha-Time, Potato Corner, and Peppa Wings are also available for customers’ delight. Moreover, the site offers local Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing customers to stay connected for both personal and work-related tasks.
Members of the Electric Vehicle Owners of the Philippines welcome the new station claiming it will serve some 50 electric vehicle owners in the area.
Shell Recharge’s chargers are fully registered and accredited by the Department of Energy (DOE). Shell Pilipinas Corporation’s dedication to sustainable mobility aligns perfectly with the DOE’s Philippine Energy Plan 2020-2040 and various government initiatives aimed at promoting EV adoption and clean, sustainable, and energy-efficient technologies in the Philippines. Earlier this year, Shell Pilipinas signed a tripartite agreement with Shell Energy Philippines, Inc. (SEPH) and DOE to conduct a pilot study on EV charging stations powered by renewable energy sources such as solar.
Shell Recharge stations are expected to increase in the next two years. This is the brand’s response to the increasing demand for EVs in the country–doubling since 2022. It also “reflects SPC’s commitment to decarbonizing mobility by providing alternative and sustainable mobility options for its customers.”
