End-of-life autos take a ‘green’ spin

In a significant move towards greener mobility, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has officially partnered with Standard Insurance Co., Inc. as its second end-of-life vehicle (ELV) dismantling facility in the country.

That puts the Cavite-based site right on the map of Toyota’s Global 100 Dismantlers Project—an initiative aimed at giving worn-out vehicles a proper send-off.

Situated within Standard Insurance’s technical and training center in Naic, the facility handles around 850 insured vehicles annually. It is designed to disassemble up to six units per day across its expansive 8,840 sqm space. Backed by a P17.8 million investment, this hub isn’t just about breaking down cars—it’s about smart sustainability.

ELV dismantling facilities like this play a significant role in building a circular economy for the automotive industry.

Instead of letting inoperable vehicles rot away, they’re taken apart responsibly, hazardous materials are contained, and usable parts get a new lease on life and are repurposed.

With two Toyota-endorsed ELV hubs now operational in the Philippines, the private sector is stepping up its efforts to boost local capacity for safe vehicle disposal and reduce the climate risks associated with abandoned autos.

This makes Standard Insurance the fifth Toyota-approved dismantler in Southeast Asia, helping drive the mission behind the Global 100 Dismantlers Project: cleaner recycling, less pollution, and a smarter way to handle end-of-life cars.

TMP President Masando Hashimoto couldn’t be happier:

“We’re deeply thankful to Standard Insurance for voluntarily taking part. It assures Toyota customers their old vehicles will be properly and responsibly processed.”

He added that this collaboration reinforces Toyota’s long-term goal of carbon neutrality and the broader Toyota Environmental Challenge 2050—an ambitious plan to build a recycling-focused society.

Standard Insurance has been a trusted partner in TMP’s ‘Toyota Insure’ program since 2021. This new role follows in the footsteps of En Tsumugi ELV Dismantler Corporation, Toyota’s first ELV partner in Mexico, which was endorsed in Pampanga back in September 2024.
