GLOBAL sales for Italian sports bike brand Ducati hit a record figure of 59,447 motorcycles. This is a 24 percent increase compared to 2020 (48,042) and 12 percent versus 2019 (53,183). As news of this came out, the Italian motorcycle maker also introduced its Ducati Unica, a new personalized customization program dedicated to those who want to design and build their own exclusive and unique motorcycle.

With Ducati Unica, the Centro Stile Ducati opens its doors to Ducatisti (Ducati owner-enthusiasts) and accompanies them in the realization of their dream: to collaborate directly with designers and technicians to create a motorcycle that will be a unique piece in the world.

“2021 was a magical year for Ducati. We delivered over 59,000 motorcycles, a number never achieved before in 95 years of the company’s history. We also won the title of MotoGP Constructors’ World Champion for the second consecutive year, and we started the electric era of our company with the V21L prototype, which foresees the bike that will race in the MotoE championship from 2023,” Claudio Domenicali, Ducati CEO said in a press statement.

The enormous success obtained during the year is confirmed for the Multistrada V4, which was by far the biggest-selling and most-loved bike for Ducatisti in 2021 with 9,957 motorcycles delivered to customers. The Ducati Scrambler 800 family followed with 9,059 units and the Monster with 8,734 motorcycles sold. The 2022 range is already enjoying praise from enthusiasts as demonstrated by the highest order portfolio ever at the beginning of the year.

These nine new models were presented to the public during the Ducati World Premií¨re web series, helping to create an even more complete range ready to satisfy the desires of every type of motorcyclist. Expectations are particularly high for the DesertX, the Ducati bike designed to tackle the most demanding off-roads with 21″ front and 18″ rear wheels, long suspension travel and ample ground clearance. A motorcycle that takes Ducati into a whole new world, a symbol of how the brand can widen its horizons without losing its roots and its sporting identity, as proven by the Panigale V4 which, in its latest evolutionary step, becomes the closest vehicle to a MotoGP bike that a motorcyclist can ride.

In 2021 Ducati’s growth came in all the main countries, starting with the United States, which regained the place of leading market for Ducati with 9,007 units which corresponds to an increase of 32 percent on 2020, followed by Italy with 8,707 bikes (+ 23 percent on 2020) and by Germany with 6,107 units (+ 11 percent on 2020). The Chinese market also grew with 4,901 motorcycles (+ 21 percent), as well as the French one with 4,352 (+ 12 percent) and the UK one with 2,941 units (+ 30 percent).

“With 59,447 motorcycles delivered to customers, Ducati notches up a historic result and once again underlines its solidity, despite the difficulties encountered across all sectors due to the supplies crisis…Now we are starting 2022 with an even more complete range, which is already receiving high praise as demonstrated by the best order portfolio ever at the beginning of the year,” Francesco Milicia, Ducati VP Global Sales and After Sales commented adding that these results were achieved despite the unpredictable situation generated by the supply crisis that has been on-going for some time. It is still a very volatile situation and is destined to continue further.

One week after this sales announcement, Ducati announced the Unica program. Ducatisti who join the program will be able to enter the Ducati Centro Stile atelier in person, describe their desires to the designers, and follow, during periodical visits, the progress of their motorcycles, experiencing first-hand the level of dedication and attention to detail that Ducati reserves for each customization project.

With the support of the professionals of the Ducati Unica team, the customization process will be outlined, defining every detail: precious materials, dedicated finishes, special colors and Ducati Performance accessories. All in compliance with the stylistic criteria that identify a real Ducati.

Each stage of the creation of the bike will be documented and will see the involvement of enthusiasts, from the first sketches to the delivery ceremony.

“Design is a distinctive element of our creations. We wanted to give Ducatisti the chance to identify themselves even more with their own bike, making it a direct expression of each person’s individual style. Therefore, we created Ducati Unica, an exclusive program that testifies to the excellence of Made in Italy of which Ducati is a representative in the world. An exciting and unforgettable experience of customization to be experienced directly within our Centro Stile. The moment in which Ducatisti finally see their bike is very exciting for us at the Centro Stile and a source of great pride,” Andrea Ferraresi, Centro Stile Ducati Director declared as he explained how the level of uniqueness and the obsessive attention to detail of each Ducati Unica project means that the company can only accept an extremely limited number of requests each year, and only those considered to be in line with the values “‹”‹of the brand.

Each Ducati Unica is delivered to its owner accompanied by a certificate of uniqueness, which attests to its originality and ensures its non-replicability. Availability of the Ducati Unica program will vary from market to market, and according to Toti Alberto, CEO of Ducati Philippines, it may not be available in the Philippines for now but the local distributorship is studying the possibility.
