Building a private cloud for your home

HOME Cloud systems have, for some two years, moved from being buzz phrases to actual home technologies. The availability of Network Attached Storage (NAS) technologies have made this possible.

Leading the charge for home Cloud systems is the Taiwanese technology company Synology.

It recently launched the DiskStation DS420j, a file syncing and sharing solution that addresses different capacity demands for home users. The system provides for up to 64 TB storage capacity using a bank of 4 hard disk bays that can take as little as a 1TB hard drive to a maximum 64TB drive.

DS420j offers a simple and private solution with massive capacity for you and your family to sync and share memories as you grow them,” Kevin Meng, Product Manager at Synology Inc. said.

The DS420j is powered by a quad-core Realtek RTD1296 chipset that goes up to 1.4GHz.

That is a 64-bit 4-core CPU, making it that much more versatile when it comes to handling multimedia tasks including keeping surveillance videos, storing photos and even streaming multimedia content at home. It has one Gigabit Ethernet port, two USB 3.0 ports, and two powerful 80mm fans.

Using it with Synology’s Surveillance Station, setting up security cameras on home network and interfacing this with the CCTV box is easy using products, the proprietary DiskStation Manager, a highly configurable, web-based OS. The interface seamlessly backs up your data from phones and other devices. It will also sync files across platforms, and stream media to all devices on your home network over DLNA.

realme is 4th among top smartphone brands in PH

AFTER just a year of operations, realme Philippines has climbed to the fourth spot of the top smartphone brands in the country in Q4 2019, according to leading global market analyst firm Canalys.

The brand grew its year-on-year, sell-in shipment by 709 percent, claiming nine percent of the country’s total unit shares. The same global study showed that the Philippines has a 28 percent growth in total smartphone shipments in the same quarter.

Since 2019, realme PH has established a strong presence in the market with the launch of six new devices positioned strategically across different price segments. These include the 3 series, the C series, the recent quad-camera 5 series and the XT. Partnerships with SM Supermalls, Home Credit and Qualcomm helped in attaining this successes as well as deals with the local mobile gaming industry through Mobile Legends Developer Moonton.

The brand also grew vigorously offline and online, strengthening its presence in Shopee and Lazada. The number of its distributors, resellers and brick-and-mortar increased and it currently has 4,500 partner stores, 280 kiosks and 24 concept stores nationwide.

Realme PH is determined to keep the growth momentum strong by keeping the same brand DNA in its products and promotional approach. The brand is also keen to further expand reach with its growing Artificial Internet of Things (AIoT) product line, which includes the realme Wireless Buds, realme Powerbank, realme Buds Air and more.

“We are much delighted to share this news to the realme community as this would not be possible without their constant support and loyalty to the brand. We are thankful for the support and patronage we are receiving. 2020 will be the year that we grow further with more competitive smartphones, AIoT, and 5G inclusion. Expect that we shall leap to greater heights with more Filipinos ready to enjoy the real value and the latest technology,” realme PH Marketing Director Austine Huang said.

It is also getting ready for 5G by offering its very competitive 5G smartphone lineup in the country. Coordinating closely with local telecom operators to ensure the compatibility of its devices. — Gregory E. Bautista
