The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), the country’s largest business organization, has awarded the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) the prestigious Country Movers Award for its successful efforts in reducing electricity costs and strengthening the national power grid.

Under NGCP’s management, transmission charges have dropped significantly, with current rates averaging PHP0.50 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), compared to the previous PHP0.74 per kWh charged by TransCo. This reduction has delivered substantial savings to millions of consumers nationwide.

“NGCP has made significant strides in lowering transmission charges in the country. This achievement has greatly benefited consumers and contributed to the country’s economic growth,” PCCI states. The organization particularly noted that since NGCP assumed TransCo’s franchise in 2009, power outages have decreased by 83.78 percent, demonstrating the company’s commitment to grid stability.

NGCP marked 2024 with the completion of four crucial Energy Projects of National Significance (EPNS): The Mindanao-Visayas Interconnection Project (MVIP) Cebu-Negros-Panay (CNP) 230kV backbone, the Mariveles-Hermosa-San Jose (MHSJ) 500kV transmission line, and the Cebu-Bohol Interconnection Project (CBIP).

“We thank the PCCI for recognizing our outstanding efforts with the prestigious Country Movers Award. This recognition fuels our determination to continue leading the way in energy service excellence,” says NGCP. “We take immense pride in witnessing our vision come to fruition as the Philippines enjoys enhanced services through a stronger, unified grid.”
