The Philippine Green Building Council (PHILGBC) said it has come up with a green and sustainable development standard that can be applied in developing urban growth centers in the country.

To be called BERDE -Districts, the rating tool focuses on the sustainable development of wide-scale projects, and addresses the environmental, social, and economic impacts in the planning and implementation of campuses and communities.

PhilGBC said for project to be BERDE-Districts certified, it must have a distinct and clear governing body which has the authority and influence to implement the policies, action plans and programs for the whole district. This body will have the accountability in managing the activities to meet the sustainability goals and performance targets for the whole district.

A BERDE-District project must have a representative in the management that has a top-level authority and influence in assigning roles and responsibilities to the project stakeholders, and in controlling the allocated resources for the project.

“The development of a rating tool for wider scale campus and districts projects has always been a consideration under the BERDE Program since its early development stages,” PhilGBC said in a statement.
