More SM properties will soon be equipped with electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.

Property developer SM Prime Holdings Inc.  said in a statement on Wednesday  it is adding 50 EV charging stations across its malls and offices nationwide this year.

SM Prime said as of the first quarter, it has installed 131 EV charging stations as it ramps up its push for sustainable mobility.

SM Prime  said it has strategically deployed EV charging stations across its malls and office developments to support low-emission transport.

Future installations are also planned for its residential communities and leisure estates, it added.

SM Prime is accredited by the Department of Energy (DOE) as a provider and operator of Electric Vehicle Charging Station (EVCS).

“Integrating sustainable practices into our operations is a core part of SM Prime’s long-term strategy,” said Jeffrey Lim, SM Prime president. “Through this initiative, we are also supporting the government’s vision for an inclusive and future-ready EV ecosystem.”

SM Prime said it supports DOE’s roadmap which targets a 25 percent EV share in the passenger vehicle market by 2030, rising to 50 percent by 2040, and aims to deploy a sufficient number of charging stations nationwide from 2023 to 2040.
