Construction activities decline 9.6% in April on yr

The number of constructions in April 2025 based on approved building permits saw a 9.6 percent decline year-on-year, as both residential and non-residential construction activities dipped from the year ago level, according to a report released by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

The PSA said the number of constructions in the country totaled to 14,111 in April, down from the 15,609 total number of constructions in the same month of the previous year.

The total value of constructions amounted to P41.08 billion in April 2025, reflecting an annual drop of 8.1 percent from the P44.71 billion value of constructions posted in the same month of the previous year.

By type of construction, residential buildings posted the highest number of constructions at 9,288 or 65.8 percent of the total number of constructions during the month.

This, however, fell by 8.8 percent from the same month of the previous year’s level of 10,184 constructions.

The value of residential buildings construction amounted to P20.71 billion, accounting for more than half of the total construction value in April 2025.

It saw an increase of 5.7 percent from the P19.59 billion value of constructions of residential buildings reported in the same month of the previous year.

Meanwhile, non-residential type of construction was the second highest in terms of number of constructions at 2,961 or 21 percent of the total number of constructions during the month.

This type of construction dropped during the period at an annual rate of 13.2 percent.

Non-residential building constructions were valued at P15.87 billion, and accounted for more than one-third of the total value of constructions during the period.

This saw a year-on-year decline of 21.6 percent from the P20.23 billion construction value of non-residential buildings recorded in the same month of 2024.

Meanwhile, the PSA said addition, which refers to any new construction that increases the height or area of an existing building, alteration and repair of existing structures, and other constructions contributed 518, 993 and 351 constructions activities in April, respectively.

Compared with their respective number of constructions in the same period of the previous year, these types of construction posted annual drops of 4.8 percent, 8.3 percent and 8.8 percent, respectively.

The value of constructions for addition, alteration and repair to existing structures, and other constructions were recorded at P0.85 billion, P2.65 billion and P1 billion, respectively.

Compared with their respective value of constructions in the same period of the previous year, alteration and repair to existing structures recorded an annual drop of 29.9 percent.

On the other hand, addition to existing structures and other constructions posted year-on-year increases of 3.6 percent and 246.9 percent, respectively.
