Vinfast CEO joins COP28

AT THE COP28 Sustainable Trade Forum, VinFast’s Global CEO, Le Thi Thu Thuy, was the sole representative from Southeast Asia. During a session chaired by H.E. Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade, Thuy shared insights on multi-faceted strategies for fostering supply chain resilience, minimizing environmental impact, and addressing global disruptions.

VinFast Auto a leading Southeast Asian electric vehicle manufacturer, has been actively participating in global discussions on sustainable trade and supply chain resilience.

The session coincided with COP28’s first official Trade Day, where Thuy, along with other CEOs, discussed best practices and innovative strategies. VinFast showcased its approach to modernizing its vertically integrated supply chain model, contributing to global sustainability and resilience. The company’s participation underscored its commitment to driving transformation and innovation in the sector.

During the panel, Thuy emphasized VinFast’s role in shaping the future of the global trading system, focusing on creating sustainable and inclusive supply chains. Similarly, H.E. Dr. Thani Al Zeyoudi highlighted the importance of modernizing the trading system to achieve climate goals.

Additionally, VinFast participated in a panel on electrification in Vietnam, hosted by the Vietnam Ministry of Transport and UNDP Vietnam. The company discussed its efforts in developing an electric mobility environment in Vietnam, including manufacturing passenger EVs and establishing a comprehensive charging infrastructure.

At COP28, VinFast also showcased its flagship electric vehicle model, VF 9, at Expo Dubai City.

Almost simultaneous to the COP28 participation, Vinfast signed a Letter of Interest (LOI) with the and the United States International Development Financial Corporation (DFC) for a USD 500 million loan to establish a lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility in Vietnam. This marks a key milestone in the Vietnam-U.S. Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and VinFast’s global expansion strategy.

The DFC’s support for VinFast aligns with its mission to finance solutions for critical challenges in developing countries, focusing on sustainable development and environmental standards. With investments across various sectors, the DFC has contributed significantly to development projects in Vietnam, making it the largest market in Southeast Asia for the corporation.

“As an emerging, innovative electric vehicle manufacturer, we were pleased to be involved in critical discussions on the future of the global trading system,” Thuy concluded as she also shared Vinfast’s approach and unique perspectives on modernizing global commerce for more countries during COP28.
