New Avanza unveiled, starts at P813K

JUST a month and four days after Toyota Motor Philippines, Inc. (TMPI) launched the Raize, it again brings in another subcompact, this time the latest upgrade to its popular Avanza multi-passenger vehicle, now featuring front-wheel drive and a CVT option.

“The Philippines loves commercial vehicles or CVs. Through the years, MPVs have served as a practical choice for the day-to-day needs of Filipino families,” TMPI President Atsuhiro Okamoto said during the launch of this third-generation Avanza first released in 2006.

Toyota’s regional marketing research has determined how versatility has become so important to the family use vehicle market. This new Avanza, created under the Toyota-Daihatsu collaboration called the DNGA (Daihatsu New Generation Architecture) is an all-new platform and was last refreshed in 2019.

Positioned below the larger Innova, the Avanza has become an image of versatility and reliability. Its size is perfectly suited for Filipinos’ mobility needs in the short hops and heavy traffic. Its popularity was confirmed by more than 116,000 owners.

“Our mobility requirements are rapidly evolving, especially after the disruptions caused by the pandemic, but one thing remains constant: Filipinos will always need a reliable car that can offer ample, comfortable space for the family, including extended family members,” Sherwin Chualim, TMP first vice president for Vehicle Sales Operations said.

DNGA not only works on economies of scale, but it also allows the sharing of technology and expertise. Daihatsu has always been a small car builder, and since Toyota has been bullish in introducing even more efficient and compact cars, the new Avanza slots in perfectly into the segment this group of products, designed under the new global architecture platform.

TMPI says that the all-new Avanza is designed to “fit for the fam, guaranteed to bring the joy of driving and more happiness on the road.” To do this the company introduced it four variants with prices starting at P813K for the 1.3 J MT. The choices include the 1.3 E MT at P928K, the 1.3 E CVT at P984K, and the 1.5 G CVT at P1.039M

“And we love giving our customers choices! That is why, we are reintroducing our reliable, tried-and-tested model in the compact MPV segment. I am sure this full model change of this well-loved family car will bring more happiness for all,” Okamoto added.

The all-new Avanza’s front-wheel drive set up also brings a new level of comfort and performance because it does away with the solid rear axle and coil-spring set-up and instead gets a torsion-beam rear strut with Macpherson suspension up front. The set-up also provides a flatter floor in the rear and further enlarges its space to provide flexible 7-seating adjustments now has the “Long Sofa Mode feature” and ample luggage space.

Outside, the whole design is refreshed and closer to the look of the whole Toyota line-up. The large front grille is both aggressive and elegant. It also gets split-type LED headlamps and for 16” alloy wheels for the G-variant. Added convenience comes from the standard push start button system and a 4.2” TFT Multi-Information display for the G variant, and auto-fold side mirrors for both G and E variants.

Inside, the new 2-tone seat material is all fabric across the line. Controls are within reach and entertainment is guaranteed for the journey with the 8” Audio Display that has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity available for the G and E variants, and USB ports available for recharging.

For safety, the G and E variants are equipped with a back camera and back sensor, while the G variant is equipped with Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Camera Traffic Alert for easier parking and maneuver. It also features Vehicle Stability Control and 6 SRS airbags (G variant).

“Versatility has always been the strength of the Avanza, but for this 2022 release, expect even more value-for-money features on top of its striking style upgrades inside and out,” Chualim concludes.
