Chery teases market with new EVs

CHERY International is set to ship a batch of sample electric vehicles (EVs) to the Philippines very soon.

In a bid to continuously update Chery’s new energy vehicle line up, Chery is soon to bring in one plug-in hybrid model and two pure electric models. Recently the brand recently released its hybrid versions of the Tiggo 5 and 7. Chery can be credited with being the first car brand in the country to have prototyped EVs in its line up. As early as 2012, at the Manila International Auto Show the brand presented the A1 EV and the Chery QQ BEV.

During the simultaneous introduction of Chery Philippines Managing Director Froilan Dytianquin and the Chery Tiggo 5 and 7 hybrids, it was also alluded to that the car company would be releasing several electrified vehicles before the year ends.

“The Philippines is in a stage where it is ready for more electric and hybrids,” Dytianquin told Malaya Business Insight. “We are expecting some exciting new models coming in very soon.”

For his part Rommel Sytin, Chairman and President of United Asia Automotive Group, Inc. (UAAGI), Chery’s distributor in the Philippines, also speaking at the  launch of the Chery Tiggo 5 Hybrid, said that Chery is now one of the most powerful brands in China in the elecrtification of vehicles.

Following Chery’s launch of its hybrid models in the country, Chery eyes to incorporate green power to its upcoming model offerings to provide its Filipino customers more energy-saving and sustainable vehicles. In China Chery has an EV equivalent throughout its line up. It recently released the eQ1, an entry level electric vehicle with top performance and features.

In a report released early September, Chery Holding Group logged a total of 1,063,157 vehicle sales from January to August. This translates to a year-on-year sales increase of 42 percent, exceeding one million sales for the year.

One of Chery Group’s sales drivers is the Tiggo 8 with 21,369 units sold. Meanwhile, in the first half of 2023, Chery’s product sales in the Philippine market increased by 8 percent.

As one of the earliest automobile companies in China to focus on green development, Chery continues to innovate technology and produce a greener, more efficient and smarter vehicles.
